Motion and Interaction Design for HTML5
Adobe® Edge is a new web motion and interaction design tool that allows designers to bring animated content to websites, using web standards like HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS3.

Edge will be updated regularly to add new functionality, stay ahead of evolving web standards, and incorporate user feedback to provide the best functionality and experience possible. This is an early look at Edge with more capabilities

This version of Edge focuses primarily on adding rich motion design to new or existing HTML projects, that runs beautifully on devices and desktops.
•Create new compositions with Edge’s drawing and text tools.
•Import popular web graphics such as SVG, PNG, JPG or GIF files.
•Easily choreograph animation with the timeline editor. Animate position, size, color, shape, rotation and more at the property level.
•Energize existing HTML files with motion, while preserving the integrity of CSS-based HTML layouts.
•Copy and paste transitions, invert them, and choose from over 25 built-in easing effects for added creativity.

Download the Edge trial direct from Adobe here (may require account creation?).

I'm gonna be having a play with this over the coming weeks, just to see if it'll simplify things and make life easier. I've already spotted a certain amount of typical Adobe bloat, but looks like it might just be worth it's Salt...

Adobe has two major new products in free public beta right now – Adobe Edge for developing HTML5 animations and Adobe Muse which allows designers to create websites as easily as creating a layout for print. Adobe says interest in these betas has far exceeded their expectations.

Both tools will be shipping in their first official release in 2012. And while it’s been known for a while that Muse would be “subscription-only,” we now know too that Edge will likely follow the same path. Furthermore, neither will be included in the Creative Suite.

At a recent Adobe Analyst meeting during the question and answer session, it was revealed that Adobe is planning for both new design tools to be available only via subscription or through their new “Creative Cloud” software rental offering – and neither will be a part of CS6 – in other words, they will only be sold separately.

Preview 5.1 now available for download. More information & link.

Preview 5 introduces significant improvements to speed up the animation creation process, new on-stage tools, as well as publishing and optimization features for older browsers and lighter code output.
Preview 5.1 is a minor update that fixes two bugs.
